Our government couldn’t run a lemonade stand

“Washington abuses an outdated, often misleading accounting methodology that covers up the government’s fiscal irresponsibility. In fact the government’s accounting is so convoluted that it would not pass muster in an Accounting 101 course. … The federal government keeps track of things the way you might if you were running a lemonade stand.  It is what is called a cash-based accounting system.”
