Foundation for Teaching Economics: Federal budgets & expenditures are not the same

November 12, 2020

Mr. Bergman will explore the sometimes confusing process of government budgets and government expenditures.  He will discuss how federal budgets are constructed and how effective a framework they provide for fiscal responsibility. He will explore questions like “are budgets adjusted to reflect increased expenditures or do expenditures escape the budget process?” and “should the government budget for expenditures or expenses?”

Bill Bergman serves as Truth in Accounting’s Director of Research. He leads question formation, idea development and application of research initiatives. Bill teaches finance courses at Loyola University Chicago. He has more than 30 years of financial market experience, including thirteen years as an economist and policy analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Bill earned an M.B.A. and an M.A. in public policy from the University of Chicago in 1990.

Following a 45 minute presentation, Bergman will take Q&A from the audience. The webinar is scheduled to last 60 minutes.
