As U.S. debt, deficits mount, presidential candidates sweep them under the rug

“In four hours of debate among Democratic contenders for the U.S. presidency, the word ‘deficit’ was never uttered and the government's debt was mentioned only once. …” (Note: Similar things can be said about the President’s 2019 State of the Union address. The word ‘debt’ did not appear once, and the word ‘deficit’ appeared once, in a reference to a trade deficit)
