161 years ago, on February 14, 1859, Oregon was admitted to the union.

On February 14, 2020, Oregon will celebrate 161 years as the 33rd state admitted to the union. To celebrate, we used Data-Z to find fun facts about Oregon and to learn more about the Beaver State.

Oregon is ranked ninth in our 2019 Financial State of the States report. The state has $2.2 billion available to pay future bills and the state earned 86/100 points on our Financial Transparency Report.

Oregon has a Taxpayer Burden of $1,600, which means each taxpayer would have to pay an extra $1,600 to fully pay Oregon's bills.

Oregon has an unemployment rate of 4.1 percent, which is lower than the 50-state average of 3.79 percent.

In 2017, the Beaver State spent $101 million on parks and recreation. This is divided between the 255 state parks with over 46 million visitors yearly.

The state also spent $535 million on natural resource expenditures.

In Oregon, the median value for a home is $334,724, which makes it the sixth most expensive state to own a home.

Oregon spent $201 million on police protection expenditures in 2017.
In 2018, the poverty rate in OR was 17 percent lower than the national average. Oregon has 9.9 percent fewer children in poverty than the 50-state average.

While Oregon is the ninth largest state in landmass, it only has the 27th largest population.
