Student loan sell-off had £600 million cost for taxpayer

 “The government’s sale of a £3.5 billion tranche of the student loan book last year cost the taxpayer more than £600 million in lost income, according to the National Audit Office. The sale was agreed at £1.7 billion — reflecting the fact that many loans would never be repaid — which was used to reduce the national debt. …”
