Gov. Kulongoski approved cuts made Tuesday by state agencies to reduce Oregon’s budget by $577 million, in order to close the unexpected budget deficit announced last month.
Kulongoski used his “allotment authority” to make across the board cuts for every agency rather than calling the Legislature into a special session to make specific reductions. The cuts that go into effect starting on July 1st will represent a 9 percent cut for the remaining year of the 2009-2011 budget. Read more. |
